It is entirely possible, over the course of a single evening, to meet an urban mountain goat, watch stones hatch into baby birds, join a little girl on her first trip to the ocean, and be driven madly around a tropical island by a group of kids, all in just four books. And because we are talking about children’s books, we’ll have company on our adventures. That company may be bouncing on our chest, yelling “Again, again!” But we know how to put an end to that: surrender.

So we open the book again to the first page, snuggling closer to that child who won’t always be a child. We pull up the covers, assume our very best storytelling voice, and feel grateful for all that is magic.
